KISSING BORDERS
Eva Beatrice Förster / 300 min

A red lipstick
A black marker with permanent ink
A full-length mirror
A wall with a passage
A metall gate closing the passage
An audience

Watching the Self in a mirror
Putting some red lipstick on
Walking slowly alongside a wall
Closing gently the gate to the other side of the wall
Kissing the wall with red lips
Opening gently the gate to the other side of the wall

The Others are locked in
The Others are locked out
They wait to transit the passage
They hurry to transit the passage

Kissing the wall
5 times
10 times
100 times
1.000 times

Closing the gate
5 times
10 times
100 times
1.000 times

Violent loud fast cold
A sound like closing a prison cell
Momentarily forever
A sound across borders
Metal to metal

Closing the gate again
And again and again and again
And again and again and again
And again and again and again...

Until the gate is broken
Until the gate is open
Until the gate is silent

Kissing the wall with open mouth
One mouth but two lips
A northern line, a southern line
An eastern line, a western line

Watching the Self in the mirror
Putting some red lipstick on
Walking alongside a wall with a silent gate
Kissing the Self closer to the passage
Kissing those who are standing in the passage

Kissing good-bye the gate
Trying to forget the metallic taste

Watching the Self in the mirror
Showing scars to the mirror
Putting some black marker on
Walking to the passage with a black line on the face
Kissing the passage with a split heart

Standing in the borderlands
Starting to cry
Crying about them celebrating unity
Not feeling the division
Crying about them not being in the borderlands
Crying about them not feeling the borderlands

Then, utopia happens and THEY become US:
We hug
We kiss
We are united by scars and borders
We are many in the borderlands
We are many
We are one

(How could one ever be separate)
